Lucky Abernathy, age 79, life resident of Wabash Township and its township assessor for 18 years died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, March 12, at his residence on Veedersburg Rt 2 in the Stringtown community. He had been in ill health six years and seriouly ill two days. Mr. Abernathy was born Sept 23, 1880 in Wabash Township, son of Samuel and Humanza Lowe Abernathy. He married Sept 13, 1905 to Florence Katherine Keller who survives. He was a retired farmer and coal miner and had lived all his life in Wabash Twp. He was a member of Cooper Chapel EUB Church. Surviving in addition to his wife, are: six sons, David, Dale, Stephen, Ora and Manford, all of Veedersburg Rt 2 and Kenneth of Covington Rt 1; six daughters, Mrs. Irene WIttenmyer of Bloomingdale; Mrs. Oma Colwell of Danville, Ill; Mrs. Gladys Keller, Covington, Mrs. Helen Furr of Mellott; Mrs. Sylvia Coffing of Covington Rt 1 and Mrs. Geraldine Riley of Thorntown Rt 1; three brothers, Claude and Chauncey both of Clinton and David of Universal; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Russell of South Bend; 45 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cooper Chapel, south of Covington. The Rev. L.R. West and Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiated. The Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home had charge.
